Footynions

We all have a weakness. And a major chunk of this world’s population feels that tug when someone mentions 4-3-3. Gets goosebumps when a sublime pass is made. There is a feeling of pleasure when an orb rolls on the grass as a result of conjuring a trick as much as intentionally executing the laws of the physical world. Football, one realizes is more than a game.

Meet Footynions - born on the streets of Dubai. And their attempt to analyze issues and offer observations in this game of the world. Footynions offer their two cents (or a million dollars) worth of opinions of happenings in this magical world. One of them thinks it stands for little minions working to ensure this beautiful world remains joga bonito.

#1. Shuaib B Ahmed @footynions

The first major personal discovery in his life, right about when he was ten, was that this world was made of five elements and not four. Water, Earth, Fire, Wind and Football. In reverse order of priority.

From there on, every other occurrence, had to trudge in football’s shadow. His university stories are of games on the road and not of the discoveries in the lab. His career ambitions meandered from playing fully professional to doing sports management to working for the Asian Football Confederation. He had to wander away from those ambitions. Until now that is. Meet Footynion number one who’d stop to tell you the world is an epitome of stitched leather balanced on intricate feet.

#2. Nijas Salim @nijassalim

He tends to be the guy you’d least notice at a party. You would find him seated in the corner, sipping on cola, staring into the bowl of fruit punch like it was some black hole that sucked in all of his thoughts. This was, until someone spoke of football. Then he would change, his eyes fiery, and deliver sermons in ancient English about the game, and its artists. He does that now (after editing the ancient English into human readable form) on this website. Meet Footynion #2. And also remember not to mention football ever again in a party if you don’t want his voice layered above the sound of David Guetta beat.
